#38 "...ye have closed your eyes, and ye have rejected the prophets; and your rulers, and the seers hath he covered because of your iniquity..."

In the 29th chapter 10th verse of Isaiah it reads thus:

"For the Lord hath poured out upon you the spirit of deep sleep, and hath closed your eyes: the prophets and your rulers, the seers hath he covered"

the Book of Mormon provides a more accurate translation of this verse:

"For behold, the Lord hath poured out upon you the spirit of deep sleep. For behold, ye have closed your eyes, and ye have rejected the prophets; and your rulers, and the seers hath he covered because of your iniquity."

It becomes apparent from the Book of Mormon translation of Isaiah 29 that in the latter days the Lord pours out a spirit of deep sleep upon latter day Israel because they have chosen to close their eyes to the truth! He covers the eyes of their Seers because of their iniquity!

Modern revelation informs us that Isaiah must be speaking of the Saints of the 2nd Watch.

The Lord reveals in section 103 that the Latter day Saints are the latter day Children of Israel. In section 88 he acknowledges that they are under condemnation for taking his words lightly.. In section 112 he declares that the minds of the people have been covered with gross darkness and that all flesh have become corrupt.

But what about the Seers that are the leaders of Latter day Israel?

How many Christian Churches have claimed to have had multiple Seers leading them at the same time.

In section 124 The Lord Calls Hyrum Smith to be a joint Seer in concert with Joseph Smith in leading the church:

"And from this time forth I appoint unto him that he may be a prophet, and a seer, and a revelator unto my church, as well as my servant Joseph; That he may act in concert also with my servant Joseph; and that he shall receive counsel from my servant Joseph, who shall show unto him the keys whereby he may ask and receive, and be crowned with the same blessing, and glory, and honor, and priesthood, and gifts of the priesthood, that once were put upon him that was my servant Oliver Cowdery; That my servant Hyrum may bear record of the things which I shall show unto him, that his name may be had in honorable remembrance from generation to generation, forever and ever." (D&C 124:94-95)

Unfortunately, the Saints were rejecting the law of consecration and other commandments contained in the revelations that Joseph Smith had brought forth and they rejected the calling of Hyrum Smith to be a prophet over the Church. We will cover this fascinating event in LDS church history in greater detail in a future entry, but for now, consider this:

Joseph Smith brought forth over 100 revelations that were canonized during the first seven years of his public ministry and only about 12 during the remaining eight years. After the Saints failed to live consecration in Jackson County and Kirtland and were forced to flee both places, the flow of revelation began to diminish just as the Prophet Isaiah had prophesied.

This remarkable prophecy in Isaiah provides another evidence that the Marvelous Work ( which is the stone that Daniel saw rolling forth and crushing the kingdoms of the world) could not possibly have begun without interruption at the time of the LDS foundation movement since the foundation movement resulted in the covering up of the eyes of the Seers as a result of the iniquity of the Saints!
