#10 ....power to lay the foundation of this church, and to bring it forth out of obscurity and out of darkness"

One of the amazing things about searching the scriptures for the truths that are hidden in them is that the more truths you uncover, the more truths you are able to uncover.

Once you learn a new doctrine or concept, it starts popping up in scriptures you have read many times before even though you never noticed them before.

We have previously shown that Joseph Smith taught that he and others of the "First Laborers of the Last Kingdom" would have a second commission where they return to usher in the Marvelous Work after previously laying the foundation preparatory to the Marvelous Work.

We have shown where the doctrine of second commission that Joseph taught came from section 88, 2nd Nephi 3 and other scriptures. We have shown how the beginning verses of section one tell us that the servants who eventually go forth in power in the last generation will be the same servants that originally brought forth the Book of Commandments... now look at the following verse which is also out of sections one:

"And also those to whom these commandments were given, might have power to
lay the foundation of this church,

AND

to bring it forth out of obscurity and out of darkness... "

In other words, first they will lay the foundation of the church in the 1800's, then at a later time, they will return to bring it forth out of obscurity and darkness!

Notice how the two part scenario in section one mirrors the two part scenario in other scriptures:

"But a seer will I raise up out of the fruit of thy loins; and unto him will I give power to bring forth my word unto the seed of thy loins—and not to the bringing forth my word only, saith the Lord, but to the convincing them of my word, which shall have already gone forth among them. (2nd Nephi 3:11 see also JST Gen 50:30)


In the above passages we are informed that the latter day Seer will first bring forth the word, then at a later time he will convince people of the truthfulness of the word that he had already brought forth.

It will bring up the seven verses in the standard works where those terms show up. Among them you will see the following two references:

1. 1 Ne. 22: 12
   Wherefore, he will bring them again out of captivity, and they shall be gathered together to the lands of their inheritance; and they shall be brought out of obscurity and out of darkness; and they shall know that the Lord is their Savior and their Redeemer, the Mighty One of Israel.
2. 2 Ne. 27: 29
   And in that day shall the deaf hear the words of the book, and the eyes of the blind shall see out of obscurity and out of darkness.

Read 1 Nephi 22 and 2nd Nephi 27 very closely and you will see that section one in the D&C that we previously reviewed is speaking of a two part event.

In the 2nd watch God's Servant lays the foundation of a great work by laying the foundation of the church and bringing forth God's Word. In the 3rd watch, God's servant brings the Church out of obscurity and darkness again!

The Book of Mormon reveals that the time when the church comes out of obscurity and darkness is the time when the whole house of Israel is gathered together to the lands of their inheritance and they finally know that the Lord is their Savior! It is also the time when the Great and Abominable Church falls.

This is another evidence that the Marvelous Work and a Wonder is to come forth at a later time after the foundation of the church was laid.
